SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Various news reports have the College Football Hall of Fame moving to Atlanta when its lease is up with the city of South Bend in 2010.

Rumors of the Hall leaving the city have been pretty steady, but newspapers in Atlanta are reporting a deal has been reached with the National Football Foundation has been finalized and an announcement could come as early as Thursday.

The Hall of Fame was moved to South Bend from Cincinnati in 1995. The move was met with objections, both from other cities and from residents of South Bend.

Reaction has been mixed about the potential departure of the facility.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution first reported the move on its blog.

A potential city for the Hall of Fame according to that newspaper is near the Centennial Park on property owned by Chik-Fil-A founder Truett Cathy.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, that property has been donated by Cathy.
This is not the first time that Atlanta has come up as a possible site for moving the Hall of Fame. Also, back in April, Dallas made a pitch to bring the facility to Texas.

City of South Bend officials and the National Football Foundation have made no comment about the potential departure of the Hall of Fame.

Back in April, the NFF said they were happy in South Bend and had no plans to move the Hall of Fame.

That apparently has changed and within the next few days the city should find out its fate.
