Chiefs nip Wildcats

THREE RIVERS – The Dowagiac soccer team scored a goal in each half to edge host Three Rivers Wednesday night in Wolverine Conference soccer, 2-1.

The match was tied at 1-1 at halftime as the Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 lead on a goal by Andy Taverner in the 33rd minute.

The Chieftains were able to knot the match before the intermission when Craig Zebell scored in the 39th minute.

Just five minutes into the second half, Dowagiac scored the game-winner off the foot of Hazen McMeeken.

The Chieftains held a commanding 22-5 advantage in shots on goal in the match.
“We controlled the majority of the game, we were just unlucky when it came to finishing,” Dowagiac coach Mike Williams said.
