MARSHALL – The Niles junior varsity football team improved to 2-0 with a 36-12 victory over host Marshall Thursday night.

Martell Miller had over 100 yards rushing and scored a touchdown for the Vikings, who also got a pair of scores from Brandon Partee before he was sidelined in the second half due to injury.

Quarterback Logan Harpenau also added a touchdown.

Ronnie Jones picked up the other score for Niles in the second half.

“We have not been perfect offensively quite yet, but we have been very productive because of the effort we are getting from our kids,” Niles coach Josh Bourne said. “We’ve still got some work to do.”

On the defensive side of the football, Bourne singled out the play of linebackers Quinton Irby, Zack Fillwock and Partee.

“We can’t stress enough how well those three play and how hard they hit,” he said. “Our defensive line had a very solid night and we got some nice play from Darius Beck at safety.
“If our defense continutes to play with the type of intensity we’ve seen the first two games, we should always be right there against any team on our schedule.”

The Niles freshmen and junior varsity squads will play their first home games of the season next Thursday night when they host St. Joseph.
