John Thomas “Tom” Mathews, 72, of Thomas Drive, Niles, passed away early on Wednesday, Aug.19, 2009, with his wife by his side.

After high school, Tom went straight into the U.S. Navy.

He proudly served his country for more than 20 years and two wars, until he retired in 1974 as a chief petty officer.

He moved to Michigan and started another career at Logan Industries, where he met his wife, Maggie.

In keeping with Tom’s wishes he has been cremated and will be buried at sea. Tom always wanted to help out those in need. To continue his legacy, memorial donations may be made in Tom’s memory to the Logan Center, 2505 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, IN 46615.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Niles.
