Blossomland Soccer ready for playoffs

St. Stephens Villains captured the Second Division championship of the Blossomland Soccer League.
The Villains finished with a record of 11-1 and will face the Niles Wolverines in the opening round of the Blossomland Cup Tournament on Sunday.
The Wolverines were runners-up in the First Division.
The match, to be played at Niles High School, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Also on Sunday, Real Dowagiac, runners-up in the Second Division, will face the St. Joe Kickers Premier at the Kicker’s Club in Arden at 2 p.m.
Playing at 4 p.m. at Rockey Weed Field in Stevensville will be the Tornados and Whirlpool United.
Also at 4 p.m., Diamonds United will take on Athletic Jaier at Bridgman High School.
The winners will advance to the semifinal round on Thursday, July 23 at 6:30 p.m.
The Blossomland Cup Finals will be on Sunday, July 26 at the Kickers Club beginning at 3 p.m.
A third place game may be played at 1 p.m. on July 26 if the league decided to have one. That decision will be announced at a later date.
The St. Joe Kickers Premier are the champions of the First Division.
Andy Low won the Golden Boot Award (top scorer) for the First Division and Octavio Hernandez for the Second Division.
Low finished with 14 goals during the regular season. The Premier’s Jason Girvan was second with 10.
Hernandez scored a league-best 22 goals, including eight in one match.
The Dowagiac Dawg’s Hazen McMeeken was second with 14 goals.
Sportsmanship winners were the Tornados for the First Division and the Kickers Reserves for the Second Division.
In recently held matches, the Kickers Premier edged Whirlpool United 1-0; the Tornados defeated Barcelona 9-1; Athletic Jaier blanked Diamonds United 6-0; P&R FC edged Real Dowagiac 4-3; Buchanan FC shut out Red Arrow FC 3-0; and the Kickers Premier and Athletic Jaier played to a 2-2 draw.

Andrew Girvan scored the lone goal of the match for the Premier.

Ryan Mitchell and Zach Riechert had two goals each for the Tornados, who also got goals from Ryan Smithberger, Errol Rousseve, Matt Szymanski, Levi Miller and Grigor Petkov.
Israel Santana had the lone goal for Barcelona.

Diamonds…0

Kyle Haumersen had two goals, while Phillip Turner, Alex Boehm and David Wood all scored for Jaier, which also had an own goal by the United.

Jason Lehmann scored twice for P&R.
Also scoring were Jason Forbes and Tim Judkins.
Scoring for Real Dowagiac were Diego Gasca, Rodolfo Hernandez and Galdino Olmedo.

Buchanan FC wins its final match due to a forfeit.

The Kickers got goals from Jason Girvan and Tony Black, while Jaier’s goals were scored by Turner and Carl Winterbottom.
