The Dowagiac cross country teams were swept by visiting South Haven in a Wolverine Conference meet at the middle school Wednesday.

The Chieftain boys’ team lost to the Rams 23-32, while girls’ team lost 16-45.

Kaleb Detwilder led Dowagiac with a third-place finish and a time of 18:54.

Emily Dodd was the top Dowagiac girl placer with a time of 24:36, which was good for fifth place.

“We didn’t get a win, but solid performances,” Dowagiac coach Dan VandenHeede said. “We have good numbers out now, but most, especially girls,  are very new runners and still figuring out training and pacing.”
