Trine falls to Alma in college wrestling

ANGOLA, Indiana — Trine University was defeated by No. 12 Alma, 30-10 in a collegiate dual wrestling match in Hershey Hall Friday night.

The Thunder got wins from Brandon Preston (Logansport, Indiana), Michael Conner (Zionsville, Indiana) and Mack Green (Buchanan) in the match.

Trine falls to 2-9 on the season in dual matches. The Scots improved to 12-6 in duals.

Conner earned the most convincing victory of the night, picking up the 8-0 win by major decision. The win was the junior’s 25th of the season. He scored six points via takedowns.

Preston built a comfortable 7-1 lead on two near falls, a takedown and an escape on his way to the 8-3 victory by decision. He picked up his 15th victory of the season.

Green earned his 30th victory of the season by 3-0 decision. The senior scored a 2-point reversal and was awarded a point for riding time. The No. 2-ranked heavyweight in the nation is now 30-3 on the season.

Trine returns to action Tuesday when they travel to Olivet for a dual match at 7 p.m.
