Terry Stephens, 67 / Nov. 8, 1942 — July 31, 2010

Terry M. Stephens, 67, of South 15th Street in Niles, died at 11:55 p.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at his home following an extended illness.

Mr. Stephens was born Nov. 8, 1942 in South Bend to Merle G. and Marjorie E. (Shank) Stephens. He graduated from Niles High School and lived most his life in Niles. Terry retired in 2005 after 40 years of service at American Electric Power Co.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the United States Navy.

He attended First Missionary Church in Niles. He was a former volunteer committeeman and coach for the Babe Ruth Baseball League. He enjoyed traveling in his RV with friends throughout the United States.

On April 10, 1962 in Benton Harbor, he married the former Kay E. Brant, who survives. He is also survived by their son, Thomas M. (Judith) Stephens, of Stevensville; grandsons, Tyler (Vanessa) Stephens and Toby Stephens; step-granddaughter, Sarah Hess; six great-grandchildren; and sister Luellyn (Harold) Myers, of Granger.

He was preceded in death by their son, Tracy Stephens, who died in September 1981, and a sister, Marcia Diane Stephens, who died in 1941.

Funeral services for Terry M. Stephens will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 at Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Mark A. Slabaugh of First Missionary Church in Niles officiating.

Interment will be at Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions in memory of Terry M. Stephens may be made to Hospice at Home or the American Cancer Society.
