Edwardsburg hires three new teachers

The Edwardsburg Public School board voted to hire three faculty members at its organizational meeting Monday night.

Nicole Ignowski, of Niles, will join the intermediate school as a fifth grade teacher. She has a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Western Michigan University.

Alexis Hiner, currently the instrumental technician at the high school, will become the assistant band director. She holds a bachelor of music degree from Saint Mary’s College.

John Pobuda, a former teacher at Decatur Middle School, will be the high school life sports teacher and the middle school health teacher. He graduated from Hope College with a bachelor of arts degree in physical education and has a health endorsement from Calvin College.

The board also approved Cheryl Steele as the new recording secretary, replacing Kathy Dew who retired in June.

• 2013-14 board meeting calendar

• Time of board meetings

• Place of board meetings

• Approval of annual retainer contracts

• Compensation for board of education

• Designation of superintendent as executive officer of the board of education and elections

• Approval of board of education bylaws/policies

• Approval of organizational memberships

• Set June 1, 2014 for graduation
