Movie review: Sinister

“Sinister”
4.5 out of 5 stars
Genre: Horror, thriller
Rated: R

“Sinister” stars Ethan Hawke, who portrays a writer named Ellison Oswalt. He moves into this “murder” house, where he feels he can come up with another best-selling book. He investigates a case about a family that was slaughtered outside his backyard to give him the inspiration to write his new novel. Already sounds more boring than it really is.

The opening scene  makes the audience literately scream. The first shot has everyone saying, “so this is what I’m in for.”

Hawke finds this case of Super 8 recordings over a series of murders that have happened over time. Now, this is where the movie will seriously mess with you.

All of the recordings showcase a different murder, which is often very graphic and horrific. Be prepared for this.

This movie isn’t just scary; it’s disturbing. “Sinister” is the horror movie the world has been waiting for. This movie reminds the audience of what good horror is all about — making the audience feel alive.

Last year, horror hit “Insidious” swept the world, but this is nothing like it. Just talking about “Sinister” makes your hair stand up. I would rather be painting a pentagram on a mirror while saying “Bloody Mary” and being surrounded by serial killer clowns than watch those short recordings again.

The movie is predictable at times, but you will still scream even though you know it’s coming.

This is the best horror movie in a long time. I still have nightmares about this movie a week later.

Go into this movie with an open mind and the images will be nailed into your head for a while. If you don’t care for very unsettling memories, do not even attempt to sit through this truly terrifying masterpiece.

Move over, “Paranormal Activity” — there is a new top runner for horror.
