Police warn of phone scam

Ontwa Township-Edwardsburg Police Chief Kenneth Wray has reported a phone scam in the area.
Be cautious if you see on your Caller ID 317-000-0000 and V02061218540032, or any letter V with numbers following, and answer the phone and receive a recording that states the caller is from “Card Member Services” You are then informed to press “9” to talk to a live operator.
This is a scam. These scam artists are trying to access credit card numbers. Do not give them any credit card information. If you engage in conversation with them, they will continue to call back. Even if you are on the Do Not Call Registry, they still will call.
A local resident has been bombarded with these calls at least three times a week.
The Federal Trade Commission is trying to shut down this scam operation; in the meantime, ignore the calls.
For more information, contact Wray at 663-8444 or otepd@comcast.net.
