First Presbyterian names new music minister

The First Presbyterian Church of Niles has named its new minister of music, Russell Patterson, who brings a wealth of experience and training that will continue to support the church’s strong music tradition.

Patterson has introduced many new innovations in the music department, the most recent of which is the “15 Minute Choir,” which rehearses exactly 15 minutes (a timer is set) following the traditional worship service. He also directs the Chancel Choir, the youth choir and a bell choir that plays 4 1/2 octaves of bells. He also serves as organist and pianist for worship services. He has more than 20 years of experience and trained at Westminster Choir College.

The traditional worship service Sunday at First Presbyterian will celebrate the role of music in worship.

All the choirs will be take part, and Patterson will have some special organ music to enhance the worship experience, which starts at 11 a.m.; the music prelude will start at 10:45 a.m..
