Purdue set to face Michigan State Tuesday night

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. —The Purdue men’s basketball team continues its grueling start to the Big Ten season at Michigan State on Tuesday, the first of two road games this week vs. the league’s best.
The contest will be televised on ESPN2 with Dave Flemming, Dan Dakich and Molly McGrath calling the action courtside, beginning at 9 p.m.

On the radio waves, the contest will be available on the Purdue Radio Network and TuneIn.com with Larry Clisby and Rob Blackman on the call, beginning with the Purdue Basketball pregame show at 8 p.m. Live stats will be provided on PurdueSports.com, and Twitter updates will be available on Purdue’s official account (@BoilerBall).
Purdue is looking for its first road win of the season and its first road win against a top-10 team since Feb. 17, 2010 (at Ohio State). Purdue is also looking for its third straight league start of 3-1 or better.
Purdue stays in the late time slot, traveling to Wisconsin for a 9 PM tip on Friday.

The two teams

  • Purdue enters Tuesday’s contest with the Spartans boasting a 9-5 record and a 2-1 mark in the Big Ten, having won its last three contests by a combined 55 points.
    • Purdue has found its consistency on both ends during the current streak, averaging 84.7 points per game, while allowing just 66.3 points per outing.
    • Carsen Edwards continues to play at a high level, averaging 25.5 points and 3.4 assists, ranking fourth nationally in scoring.
    • Ryan Cline averages 12.6 points per game and is 68th nationally in 3-ptrs made (42).
    • Purdue’s bench has played outstanding as of late, contributing 32.0 points per game over the last four contests.
    • Michigan State is 13-2 overall and owners of an eight-game win streak. The Spartans rank in the top six in both offensive and defensive efficiency.

  • Purdue’s “true” road games this year have come against No. 13 Florida State, No. 2 Michigan, at RV Texas and now No. 6 Michigan State.
    • Using this week’s current AP poll, Purdue has just five games remaining against teams NOT receiving votes in the AP poll. Ten Big Ten teams are ranked in the top 32 (votes).
    • Purdue is 7-9 all-time against teams ranked No. 6 in the AP Top 25 poll.
    • Purdue has won 10 straight games during the month of January. Its last loss was Jan. 30, 2017, at Nebraska.
    • The last three games at the Breslin Center have been decided by 3 (loss), 11 (win) and 6 (loss) points.
    • The two teams have won the last two Big Ten Championships (Purdue – 2017; MSU – 2018).
    • Since the start of 2015-16, the two teams are a combined 82-25 (Purdue – 40-13; MSU – 42-12) in Big Ten regular-season play against the other teams in the Big Ten. Purdue is 3-1 against MSU in the regular season since 2016.
