Junior golf tour established

Young golfers have a chance to return to the links this summer in a competitive environment.

It was announced late last week that there will be five weekly events, plus a two-event championship tournament as part of the inaugural Lakeshore Junior Golf Association Tour.

Founder Barry Shanley has gotten many of the area golf courses involved, including Hampshire Country Club, Orchard Hills Country Club and Indian Lake Hills Golf Course.

The post per player is just $15 per weekly event and $25 for the championship tournament. There will be four divisions for boys and girls ages 13-15 and 16-18.

Local tour stops will be Hampshire June 15, Orchard Hills June 19 and Indian Lake June 20.

The Linnen-Jeffries and Ned Jamieson tournaments have been rolled into the summer tour.

The two-round championship event will be staged at HawksHead in South Haven July 23 and The Golf Club at Harbor Shores July 30.

Players may pick and choose what events they want to play in. They may pay for the entire schedule at once or pay as they play.

Anyone who plays in a minimum of three weekly events automatically qualifies for the championship tournament.

Players 12 and under may also participate in the 13-15 age division.
