Chieftains finish runner-up at Olde Mill

DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac golf team will head into the postseason with a full head of steam.

The Chieftains were runners-up at the Schoolcraft Invitational and then defeated visiting Berrien Springs 173-201 in their final tune-up for the Division 3 regional Wednesday.

Not only was it important to finish high at the invitational, it was key to play well at Olde Mill Golf Club, the site of Wednesday’s regional tournament.

At Schoolcraft, Drew Phillips tied with Delton-Kellogg’s Tanner Nanowski for medalist honors after both shot an 18-hole total of 84.

Host Schoolcraft won the invitational with a team total of 345.

The Chieftains were second with a 352 and Delton-Kellogg third with a 362.

Buchanan finished fourth with a score of 369.

On Friday at Indian Lake Hills Golf Course, Dowagiac was led by Drew Davis and Matt Mosier, who both shot 42.

Jared Stilwell finished with a 44, Phillips 45, Dylan Elmore 46 and Jonathan Stockwell 50.
