NILES — Through no fault of the athletes, the Class of 2020 had its chances to compete for BCS Athletic Conference championships, as well as individual all-conference honors taken away from them.

As a result, the BCS got together and decided to name each senior who competes in spring sports to be named first-team all-conference, according to Bridgman athletic director Ken Schmaltz.

“As the 2020 spring sports season was ultimately canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCS Conference unanimously made the decision as a league to recognize and pay tribute to all Class of 2020 student-athletes as first-team all-conference for the spring season,” Schmaltz said in releasing the names of the seniors.

Veteran Brandywine coach David Sidenbender liked the idea.

“Sounds like a nice thing for the seniors,” Sidenbender said. “Nothing can bring back the memories and experiences that were taken away from them, so they can at least have this.”
