Dowagiac hosts jazz fest April 17

Dowagiac Jazz Band hosts the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) district jazz festival on Tuesday at the middle school Performing Arts Center.
The event is free to the public and includes 10 groups, including Lakeshore’s eighth grade band directed by Dowagiac graduate Phil Huff.
“All are welcome to come listen to some great jazz music,” Band Director C.J. Brooks said Thursday, adding that there will be two fewer ensembles than last year because of cuts in those districts.
Trombonist Tom Evans, Kalamazoo College jazz studies professor, will adjudicate.
