MNA tours Dowagiac Woods April 29

To celebrate 60 years of protecting Michigan’s natural heritage, Michigan Nature Association (MNA) is hosting a tour of Michigan.
The 60th Anniversary MNA Odyssey Tour includes Dowagiac Woods on April 29 and Van Buren County’s Hamilton Township Coastal Plain Marsh on April 30.
Since its foundation in 1952, MNA has worked to protect rare, threatened and endangered species and natural communities across Michigan.
Over six decades, MNA has built a statewide network of more than 170 nature sanctuaries, with sanctuaries in 58 of Michigan’s 83 counties, including Cass.
The dream of MNA member and former Trustee Dave Wendling, the MNA Odyssey is a tour of 20 finsanctuaries chosen for their unique natural features, educational value and accessibility to the public.
Wendling, whose desire to visit unique places in Michigan upon his retirement that coincided with the 60th anniversary of MNA, will help lead tours at each of the 20 and give talks about the unique features.
“Everyone should have the opportunity to see these natural treasures at least once in a lifetime, and this is my chance to help make it happen,” Wendling said.
The tours, which are being co-organized and co-led by MNA member Tina Patterson, will take place throughout 2012 and range from the southern border of Michigan to the Keweenaw Peninsula.
The Odyssey will provide an easy opportunity to learn more about Michigan’s natural areas.
To register to take one or more of the Odyssey tours, email michigannature@michigannature.org or call (866) 223-2231.
