Chieftains rebound to sweep Paw Paw

The Dowagiac softball team rebounded from a sweep by Vicksburg Tuesday to defeat visiting Paw Paw 3-0 and 7-1 in Wolverine Conference action Friday.

“The girls and I talked about Paw Paw being redemption games after the way we played Tuesday versus Vicksburg and that was exactly what they were,” Dowagiac coach Mike Behnke said. “We played much better defense and made some difficult plays. And we got timely hitting especially from Mickie Kiggins, who got us on the board in the first inning of both games with two-out RBI hits.”

Taylor Hullett was the winning pitcher in both games. Megan Soderbloom worked two innings in the second contest.

The Chieftains (22-8) scored a run in the first and then two in the fifth to account for the scoring in the opening game.

Kiggins was 2-for-3, as were Marissa Dodd and Hulett. Kiggins and Hulett both drove in runs.

Soderbloom was 3-for-4 in the nightcap for the Chieftains, who got two hits, including a double, and two RBIs from Amiyah Smith.

Dodd added a triple and drove in two runs. Kiggins had a hit and drove in a pair for Dowagiac, which hosted Three Rivers in a Wolverine Conference make-up doubleheader Monday.
