Niles Haunted House offers scholarships for area seniors

The Niles Haunted House Board of Directors recently announced that it is awarding $500 scholarships to seniors at the Niles High School and a senior at the Brandywine High School.
The Niles High School scholarship, in memory of Lou Milley, and the Brandywine High School scholarship, in memory of John Carlson, are awarded to a high school senior based on their community service, economic need and academic merit.
In addition, a scholarship is being offered in memory of long time volunteer Gottlieb “Chris” Christ who passed away in 2012. This scholarship also is for $500 and is open to seniors at the Niles High School.
Another scholarship available is the Keith Shurte Memorial Scholarship being offered by the Shurte family. The scholarship is worth up to $500, and seniors from Brandywine, Lakeshore, Buchanan, Edwardsburg and Dowagiac High Schools are eligible to apply.
It will be awarded based on the criteria listed below.
Applicants must have completed at least 50 hours of volunteer work at the Niles Scream Park in the last two years, demonstrate academic success and be attending a secondary college, university or trade school in the next academic year.
In order to be considered for these scholarships, community service is a must. The Lou Milley scholarship gives preferential treatment to those applicants who have a background in graphic arts or plan on majoring in the area.
For more information, please contact the school guidance counselor and ask for the applicable scholarship application.
