Eagles to host benefit for community member

The Fraternal Order of the Dowagiac Eagles will host a spaghetti dinner benefit from 3 to 7 p.m. July 21 for a community member recovering from surgery.

Jenny Richcreek Parish was diagnosed with cancer in November 2011 that enveloped her abdomen. Doctors began treatment, but soon were alerted the procedure was not working. The next step was for Parish to undergo surgery at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, which was unsuccessful the first time. Through what Parish’s sister, Bobbie Jo Hartline, called a miracle, doctors were able to perform the surgery a second time, removing the tumor and multiple organs. After recovering, Parish will come home to Dowagiac.

According to Hartline, all proceeds from the dinner will go to alleviating Parish’s medical expenses.

The spaghetti dinner and celebration begins at 3 p.m. at 101 E. Railroad St. in Dowagiac. The public is invited to attend, and the cost per meal is $8.  Carryout orders will be available.

For those who cannot attend the benefit, Hartline said  community members can donate to The Parish Fund at any Huntington Bank.
