Cass board postpones vote on non-renewal of Gaideski contract

The Cassopolis Board of Education voted to table the decision not to renew the contract of Tricia Gaideski, the district’s director of finance.

Following a closed session to discuss the topic, board member George Calvert called for the vote to be postponed until a special meeting Monday night.

“I do not think we have enough information to make a decision,” Calvert said. “I think we should postpone this decision on this non-renewal until we get an analysis of the financial savings that would come about with this.”

The board then voted unanimously (7-0) to postpone the vote until after Superintendent Tracy Hertsel could provide the board with a more accurate figure on potential savings to the district.

Cassopolis, which has been looking at ways to save money for the coming school year, is considering hiring an outside firm to handle its finances.

The special meeting will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the Squires Education Center.

In other items, the board also hired Jennifer Bloss as a student advocate after she completed her probationary period.

They also accepted the resignation of Matt Brawley as JV football coach. Brawley, who was hired on as athletic director last year, is stepping down from the position due to his athletic director duties. He stayed on last fall so that the district would not have to scramble to find a new coach.
