Christmas in June to collect donations for local food pantries

United Way of Southwest Michigan will be hosting a Christmas in June food drive to help stock local pantries.

Every year across southwest Michigan, food pantries see themselves fully-stocked in the winter months and holiday season. However, when summer hits, local food pantries have reported that fewer donations come in, making it difficult to keep shelves stocked to support people in need.

United Way of Southwest Michigan is asking local businesses to help us stock the local food pantries with items in group of 100 to help get pantries through the summer months. The nonprofit will be collecting all of the items on June 20 and June 21 at the following drop-off locations.

• Upton Middle School, 800 Maiden Lane, St. Joseph

• Buchanan Middle School Cafeteria, 610 W. Fourth St., Buchanan

• Brookside Learning Center, 61662 Dailey Road, Cassopolis
