Vikings place 10 on all-area wrestling team

The Niles wrestling team placed 10 wrestlers on the All-Southwest Michigan Wrestling team, which was released Thursday.

Named to the first team for the Vikings were senior Quintin Smith and junior Mitchell Findeisen.

Smith finished the 2015-16 season with a record of 35-11, while Findeisen finished with a record of 40-9. Findeisen finished fourth at the state finals.

Edwardsburg’s Hunter Vargo (52-6) and Michael Higley (52-4) were also first team selections.

Lakeshore’s Austin Franco was named Wrestler of the Year, while Decatur’s Jack Richardson was named Coach of the Year.

The team was selected by the area wrestling coaches.
