Timothy J. File, 64, of Bitely, formerly of Dowagiac, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 at his home following a short illness.

Tim was born on Feb. 13, 1949 in Dowagiac to Arthur and Frances (Huelsman) File. Tim had worked at the Sealed Power Company in Muskegon from 1967-1975 and then started work on the family farm, AT & T Farms from 1975–1985. Tim later moved to the Bitely area where he owned and operated Files Bait and General Store from 1993 until 1999.

Tim married Robin Felthouse on May 9, 1992 in Bitely. Tim had enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, spending time with his friends at Woody’s and the Bitely Bar and was a life member of the Bitely VFW Post 995 and Dowagiac VFW Post 1855. Tim served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War.

Tim is survived by his wife, Robin of Bitely; his children, John (Cherie) File of Dowagiac; Paula Hohl of Granger; Tonya File of Dowagiac; James (Brandy) File of Dowagiac; Tara (Scott) Bergemann of Dowagiac; Nichole (Wade) Adcock of Arkansas; Miranda (Brad) Brit of Arkansas; Cassie File of Bitely; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sisters, Judy (Jerry) Root of Plainwell; Carolyn White of Decatur; Marty (George) Murphy of Newaygo; Michele (Tom) Schultz of Dowagiac; Kimber (Tadd) Tomoske of Dowagiac; his brother, Tom (Ann) File of Cassopolis; his mother-in-law, Joyce Felthouse of Dowagiac; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur in 1981 and Frances in 1988; his sister, Rosemary Meehan in 1991; his sister, Mary Jo Johnson in 2008; his brother-in-law, Ben Johnson in 2009; brother-in-law, Gordon White in 2012; father-in-law, Robert Felthouse in 1997.

A celebration of Tim’s life will be held on Nov. 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Lilley Township Cemetery in Bitely following cremation. Friends may consider the Tim File family for a memorial to be established later for memorial contributions in memory of Tim. Friends may send a condolence or share a memory with the File family online at www.crandellfh.com.
