EDWARDSBURG — Three drivers were injured Thursday after a multi-vehicle crash involving a school bus on Thursday morning, according to the Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department.
Officers responded to the accident at the intersection of M-62 and May Street at 7:08 a.m. Thursday.
The initial investigation determined that a 17-year-old from Elkhart, Ind., was traveling westbound and stopped but failed to yield the right-of-way to a southbound Edwardsburg school bus. The bus was driven by Annita Callegea, 52, of Edwardsburg. As the 17-year-old’s vehicle veered off the bus, it was then struck by a northbound vehicle driven by Barbara Courchmene, 45, of Elkhart, Ind. The school bus ultimately ended up on its side.
All three drivers were treated on the scene by Edwardsburg Ambulance Service and SMCAS, but all refused transport. No students were on the bus at the time of the accident. The 17-year-old was cited for the hazardous action.
The Ontwa Township Edwardsburg Police Department was assisted by the Edwardsburg Fire Department, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State Police.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the OTEPD at (269) 663-8444.
