Niles man injured in tractor vs. minivan crash

HOWARD TOWNSHIP — A Niles man was injured Thursday after a minivan struck the tractor he was driving in Howard Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 5:24 p.m. Thursday, deputies were called to investigate a personal injury crash near the intersection of Leet Road and Worrell Street in Howard Township.

The investigation shows that 55-year-old Michael Studer, of Niles, was at the intersection at Leet Road and Worrell Street and slowed down to conduct an Eastbound Turn onto Worrell Street. The driver of the second vehicle, 78-year-old Larry Chapman, of Niles, attempted to pass the tractor operated by Studer on the left, colliding with the tractor as it conducted its eastbound turn. Studer sustained injuries and was transported by EMS to Memorial Hospital in South Bend Indiana.

Assisting in this crash was the Michigan State Police and SMCAS.
