Edwardsburg football falls to Vicksburg 38-35

VICKSBURG — The Edwardsburg Eddies fell to on the road to Vicksburg 38-35 Friday in a back-and-forth matchup. The game featured five lead changes in the second half.

The Eddies took the early lead with a lengthy drive in the first quarter, capped by a 2-yard touchdown run by Giovanni Orue on fourth and goal. The 9-minute drive gave Edwardsburg an 8-0 lead with 1:13 left in the first quarter. Vicksburg answered in the second quarter with a 5-yard touchdown pass, closing the gap to 8-6. Edwardsburg quickly extended its lead when Codey Clark connected with Cameron Hayden for a spectacular 81-yard touchdown pass on third and 11, pushing the lead to 15-6.

Vicksburg followed up the big play by successfully kicking a 44-yard field goal after an Edwardsburg turnover on downs, making the score 16-15 with 2:46 remaining in the half. However, the Eddies reclaimed the lead just before halftime after a great return by Caden DeHart set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Hayden, giving Edwardsburg a 22-16 advantage at the break.

The second half began with a Vicksburg touchdown – a 1-yard run by Johnson – that retook the lead for the Bulldogs, 23-22, with 7:08 left in the third quarter. The lead bounced back to Edwardsburg when Hayden broke free for a 37-yard touchdown run, making the score 28-23 with 2:33 left in the third. The back-and-forth continued into the final quarter when Jayden Keiser scored on a 6-yard run, giving Vicksburg a 31-28 lead with 10:09 remaining.

In the final minutes, DeHart ran for a 22-yard touchdown, putting the Eddies up 35-31 with 2:57 left. Vicksburg responded quickly, securing the win on a 69-yard touchdown pass from Easton Moughton to Maguire Bowles with just 1:51 remaining for the game’s final score.
