Buchanan beats Benton Harbor 40-6

BENTON HARBOR — The Buchanan Bucks defeated Benton Harbor 40-6 on Friday, improving their season record to 5-3. 

The Bucks had a 319 to 132 advantage in total yards. Buchanan totaled 242 yards on the ground while holding Benton Harbor to -14 rushing yards. Max Cornelius led all rushers with 124 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Lucas Zeiger totaled 25 rushing yards and two touchdowns on seven carries and Cy Carlin had an efficient day passing, completing 6 of 7 attempts for 73 yards and one touchdown. Brody Reed was the leading receiver, catching four passes for 55 yards and one touchdown and Owen Thompson added two receptions for 17 yards.

The Bucks’ defense forced two turnovers. Owen Thompson recorded a fumble recovery and Reed had an interception. Ryan Hickok and Thompson each recorded a sack for the Bucks. Reed also added a 25-yard punt return.

Benton Harbor’s offense gained 146 yards through the air but had a -14 net yards rushing. They completed 9 of 18 passes for 146 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Buchanan hosts Muskegon Catholic Central (2-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.
