NEWBERG TOWNSHIP — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a “suspicious” death after a deceased man was found inside a home in Newberg Township Thursday morning.

Deputies, responding to a welfare check at the 11000 block of Born Street, observed a male subject lying on the kitchen floor through a window. After being blocked from entering by several dogs, the Cass County Animal Control was called to the scene to assist in removing the animals.

Upon entering the residence, deputies discovered a female with injuries, who was transported by ambulance to South Bend Memorial Hospital. Deputies then determined that the male subject on the kitchen floor was deceased.

The names of the individuals involved are being withheld pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Cass County Drug Enforcement Team, Newberg Ambulance, SEPSA Ambulance, and Cass County Animal Control.
