Missing teen found dead in Cass County lake

PORTER TOWNSHIP — A missing teen with autism was found dead in a Cass County lake Saturday afternoon, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:04 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to reports of a missing child who had walked away from his camper while at the Willow Shores Campground on US-12 in Porter Township. The family noticed their 16-year-old old son, Kyle, was missing from their trailer.

Deputies along with medical first responders from the Southeast Public Safety Authority, Cass County Sheriff Marine Division, the Porter Township Fire Dept. and Indian Lake Fire Department searched on land and in the water of Baldwin Lake. K-9 Britton, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and MedFlight helicopter also assisted in the search. K-9 Britton indicated to her handler that Kyle had gone into Baldwin Lake.  

A drone piloted by Sheriff’s Office personnel located Kyle under the water at approximately 3:25 p.m. and the dive team recovered his body. He was deceased. This incident remains under investigation.
