One injured in Howard Township crash

HOWARD TOWNSHIP — A person was injured Friday in a single-vehicle crash in Howard Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 8:50 p.m. Friday, deputies responded to a personal injury crash in the 800 block of Carberry Road in Howard Township.
The investigation shows that 27-year-old Nicholas Austin, of South Bend, was traveling northbound on Carberry Road when his vehicle left the roadway, hit a tree and caught fire. Austin had a passenger, Josie Williams, who along with Austin was able to exit the vehicle. Williams went to Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in Niles for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash.
Both occupants were using seatbelts. Assisting in this crash was Howard Fire, Niles PD and SMCAS Ambulance.
