DOWAGIAC — The Dowagiac volleyball team was swept in three sets by Paw Paw on Wednesday with scores of 17-25, 22-25, and 23-25.

“Our girls played hard but our unforced errors are what kept us from being successful,” said Dowagiac Head Coach Amber Todd. “We are pushing to cut back on unforced errors and working to maintain consistency throughout each set.”

Marlie Carpenter led the team in kills with seven, followed by Riley Todd with five and Tessa Deering and Brianna Campbell who each had four. On defense, Carpenter had a team-high 14 digs. Zabrina Shivers had seven digs, while Claire Hess had six, and Tatiyana Lara and Hanah McCuddy each had three.

McCuddy was the assists leader with 14 and Hess added 11 assists. At the net, Niya Moss had a team-high three blocks and Deering and Carpenter each had two. Carpenter also led the team in aces with two.

Todd said that Dowagiac had a better hitting percentage (0.028 vs Paw Paw’s 0.009), a better serve receive rating (1.72 vs 1.68) and more assists (25 vs 22).

“Our serving was inconsistent and what ultimately led to this loss,” Todd said.

Dowagiac (7-13-2) faces Brandywine at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
