Edwardsburg cross country wins Fennville Open

FENNVILLE — The Edwardsburg and Niles cross country teams competed at the 65th Fennville Open Saturday at Fenn Valley Winery, with the Eddies taking first place as several runners from both schools delivered strong performances.
In the men’s varsity race, Edwardsburg had three runners finish in the top 10.
George Scupham led the Eddies with a third-place finish and a time of 16:34.01. He was followed by Ethan Ferguson in fifth place with a time of 17:03.52 and Riley Szalai in eighth place with a time of 17:41.88. Gavin Ayers secured ninth place, finishing in 17:46.78.
John Brickley was the top finisher for Niles, securing sixth place with a time of 17:05.21. Other notable finishers for Niles included Miguel Rodriguez in 24th place (19:18.17), Theodore Arseneau in 27th place (19:23.07), and Liam Pesce in 35th place (19:45.92).
In the girls varsity race, Edwardsburg’s Georgia Babcock finished third with a time of 20:26.09, and Grace Leman placed fourth with a time of 20:47.18. Giselle Babcock finished 13th with a time of 23:29.06, and Annika VanBuren placed 14th with a time of 23:31.21.
For Niles, Lena Coulston led the team with a sixth-place finish and a personal record time of 22:12.36. She was followed by Claire DevlescHoward in seventh place with a time of 22:20.43. Other runners for Niles included Haili Martz in 15th place (23:40.05) and Morgan Hopper in 16th place (23:49.81).
