CASSOPOLIS — A Cassopolis man is going back to prison after being sentenced for a probation violation Friday in Cass County Circuit Court.
Aaron Timothy Michael Mihm, 35, pleaded guilty to violating his probation from a May, 2023 home invasion conviction as a habitual offender and was sentenced Friday to 29 months to 10 years in prison.
He has credit for no days served as he is currently on parole from 2017 and 2018 convictions for arson and unlawful driving away of an automobile in Cass and Muskegon Counties.
The home invasion incident occurred in 2022 and he was sentenced to three years probation in 2023. He violated his probation by absconding from the Swift & Sure probation program he was ordered to complete. He more recently was charged with other probation violations for possession of weapons.
“We had you in the program and you did a lot of positive things,” Cass County Circuit Court Judge Mark Herman said. “The program got you employed. I don’t know why you walked off the job. You got scared, absconded and got kicked out of the program.”
“Whether you believe it or not, this (sentencing people to prison) is one of the hardest things for me to do,” the judge added. “When you come back here, contact the team here for any assistance they can give you. I don’t want you to think we’re turning our backs on you.”
