Mishawaka men charged in JD’s Truck Stop shooting

BERTRAND TOWNSHIP — Prosecutors have charged two men in connection with the June 6 shooting at JD’s Truck Stop in Bertrand Township, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office.
Sean Rader, 26, of Mishawaka, has been charged with Accessory After the Fact (felony) and Ryland Mayfield, 18, of Mishawaka, is charged with three counts of Assault with intent to Murder, one count Carrying a Concealed Weapon, one count Felony Firearms and one count Misc Weapons Offence.
Both men are lodged at the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office and scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow.
At approximately 3:38 a.m. Friday, June 6, police responded to JD’s Truck Stop for a victim who was shot. The victim was transposed to Memorial Hospital in South Bend and survived.
Officers learned that the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident that occurred nearby while the two vehicles were traveling on US-12 in Bertrand Township. Members of the detective bureau were able to locate the suspects’ vehicle in Indiana. Berrien County Sheriff’s Office detectives worked with members of the Mishawaka Police Department to locate and arrest the person believed to be responsible for this incident.
