Man arrested after threatening to burn down Wayne Township house

WAYNE TOWNSHIP — A man who threatened a family member with a gun and threatened to burn down a residence with the occupants still inside was arrested Wednesday in Wayne Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Clint Roach announces that at approximately 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 25000 block of Morton Street for a man with a gun threatening a family member. This suspect also threatened to burn down a residence with the occupants still inside. 

When deputies arrived on scene, they arrested a 52-year-old male and ensured all occupants were safe. A search of the residence was conducted, and deputies located a firearm described by the victim. The suspect was arrested for felony firearm, domestic violence and felonious assault. The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment on the charges in the 4th District Court. 

The investigation is still ongoing.  Agencies assisting with the investigation were the Dowagiac Police Department, Pokagon Tribal Police Department, and K-9 Sitka.
