BUCHANAN — The City of Buchanan and the Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce have announced the “Taste of Buchanan” pop-up event taking place Saturday, June 14 – a flavorful celebration of the city’s downtown dining scene.
Though not a traditional taste event in a single location, Taste of Buchanan is designed to showcase the city’s local restaurants and highlight how accessible and welcoming downtown remains – even amid construction.
“This is just the first of many fun events we’ll be hosting during construction,” said Buchanan Mayor Mark Weedon. “While infrastructure improvements are underway, we want the public to know our downtown and its businesses are alive, well, and very accessible. Great things are coming—and we’re not letting a little dust stop the fun.”
The event coincides with two of Buchanan’s summer favorites: the bustling Farmers Market and the soulful Jazz & Blues Festival, making it the perfect day to eat, shop, and explore—all in one place.
Participating businesses include:
- Hilltop’s Creekside Café
- Lehman’s Farmhouse Brewery
- Union Coffee House
- Buchanan Sweet Shop – Café Italiano
- Thistledown and Row
- Cannavista Wellness
- McCoy’s Creek Tavern
- Gary Z’s Sub Shop
- Milano Pizza
- Bucktown Nutrition
- Chunks Ice Cream
- Gustavsen Bakery
- Glendora’s Bookshop
- McCollum’s
- Redbud Hardware – Offering 10 percent off to anyone who brings in a receipt from a participating restaurant.
Whether you’re craving coffee, breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a sweet treat, downtown Buchanan has a variety of options. A special highlight for the day is the iconic sub shop Gary Z’s, which typically operates only from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday being open on a Saturday. For this occasion, however, Gary Z’s will be open as part of the community effort to showcase just how accessible downtown businesses remain during construction.
“We know construction can be an inconvenience for those coming downtown, but we wanted to be part of this effort to show people all the great places they can visit and things they can do with just a little extra effort,” said Mariah Molitor, owner of Gary Z’s.
