Cassopolis police recover stolen police vehicle, arrest suspect

CASSOPOLIS — Officers with the Cassopolis Police Department have apprehended a suspect who stole a police vehicle during an attempted arrest Wednesday afternoon. 

At approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, the suspect managed to flee the scene in a marked police vehicle belonging to the Cassopolis Police Department. At approximately 6:20 p.m., officers located the vehicle – a 2020 Ford Explorer with official “Village of Cassopolis Police” markings – just north of Cassopolis near Shurte Street and O’Keefe Road.

About an hour later, police say they found the suspect – described as a white male, approximately 43 years old, 5’4″, 200 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes – approximately one mile away and took him into custody and recovered the firearms that were inside their vehicle when it was stolen.

Law enforcement agencies across the region were notified and assisted in locating the suspect and recovering the vehicle.
