‘Armed and dangerous’ suspect steals Cassopolis police vehicle

UPDATE: At approximately 6:20 p.m., officers located the vehicle just north of Cassopolis near Shurte Street and O’Keefe Road. About an hour later, police found the suspect approximately one mile away, took him into custody and recovered the firearms that were inside their vehicle when it was stolen.

CASSOPOLIS — The Cassopolis Police Department is actively searching for an armed suspect who stole a police vehicle during an attempted arrest Wednesday afternoon. 

At approximately 1 p.m. Wednesday, the suspect managed to flee the scene in a marked police vehicle belonging to the Cassopolis Police Department.

The vehicle is a 2020 Ford Explorer with official Village of Cassopolis Police markings. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 43 years old, 5’4″, 200 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. At this time, he is considered armed and dangerous.

The incident remains under active investigation. Law enforcement agencies across the region have been notified and are assisting in locating the suspect and recovering the vehicle.

Those who see the vehicle or the suspect are asked not to approach and to call 911 immediately.
