DOWAGIAC — Dowagiac Union Schools Superintendent Greg Blomgren was rated “Effective” during his annual performance review by the Board of Education on Monday.

The State of Michigan’s new evaluation system requires all superintendents to receive an overall performance evaluation rating each year that falls into one of following three categories; Effective, Developing, Needing Improvement.  Superintendent Blomgren has earned the highest possible rating given the state’s current evaluation system.

This review was completed at the Board of Education Workshop on Monday, May 12 and the Board of Education voted unanimously on an “Effective” rating for Mr. Blomgren at the regularly scheduled meeting this past Monday.

Board members spoke favorably in the review process of Superintendent Blomgren’s work throughout the district in his first year and were optimistic about the direction of the district moving forward under his leadership.

“From day one, Superintendent Blomgren has proven the board picked the right man for the job.  Greg wants the best for our students, staff, and community.  His communication skills are unmatched,” said Board President Rob Ickes.

“One of the distinguishing attributes of Superintendent Blomgren is his active engagement within the community and presence at school events,” added Board Vice President Christina Carpenter. “Whether it’s attending sporting events, academic events, local gatherings, or administrative meetings, Greg is always visible, leading by example and demonstrating his vested interest in every student’s journey.  His ability to be a familiar and approachable figure has had a profound impact on both the morale and cohesion of the school district.”

Blomgren’s first year with the district started on July 1, 2024 and will be coming to a close as the students finish up the 24-25 school year on Friday May 30.
