Buchanan sweeps Niles in softball action

NILES — Buchanan was able to knock off host Niles 12-7 and 7-2 in non-league softball action Monday.
In the first game, Horvath and Weinberg each tallied three hits for the Bucks, including a triple from Weinberg. Berry, Carlson, Legault, and Singleton each tallied two hits and Carlson added three RBIs.
Niles was led offensively by Kloe Kiggins, who had one double and four RBIs. Elrod and Morgan Racht each added two hits, including a double from Racht.
On the mound, Legault picked up the win by striking out three batters while surrendering seven hits and six earned runs in five innings. Niles’ Ilyee Wirick struck out one batter while giving up 11 hits and nine earned runs.
In game two, Singleton and Berry both homered for the Bucks and with Singleton and Berry totaling two and four RBIs. Weinberg had three hits including a double and Horvath, Carlson and Ely added two hits for the Bucks.
For Niles, Addeline Johnson had two hits and one RBI and McKenna Albright added one RBI.
On the mound, Horvath struck out four batters and gave up two earned runs in the win and Wilken struck out three while surrendering four earned runs for Niles.
The Bucks (20-11) travel to face South Haven Wednesday in a doubleheader and Niles (8-23) travel to face Three Rivers Tuesday in a doubleheader.
