Edwardsburg girls tennis qualifies for state after runner-up finish at regionals

MARSHALL — Fresh off its first ever Wolverine Conference championship, the Edwardsburg girls tennis team punched its ticket to the state tournament Thursday night.
The Eddies finished runner-up at Marshall to qualify as a team for the Michigan High School Athletic Association State Championships.
The Division 3 finals will be held in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan April 29.
The Eddies placed second overall with a score of 23 points and Niles placed fifth with seven points.
Leading the way for the Eddies were No. 3 singles Verona Moody and the No. 2 and No. 4 doubles teams of Mara VanBuren/Olivia Closson and Brailey Fowler/Kady Yowell, who took home regional titles.
Edwardsburg’s No. 1 singles player Erin Letter and No. 3 doubles team Abbie Hartley/Bella Hankins made it to the finals and No. 4 singles Grace Leman, No. 2 singles Julia Lewis and No. 1 doubles Abby Pryor/Mya Eberlein made it to the semifinals.
For Niles, No. 1 singles Cheyenne Small, No. 2 doubles Addison VanDalsen/Emma Williams and No. 3 doubles Brooklyn Hemminger/Scarlet Thalman made it to the semifinal round.
