220+ animals found during Howard Township animal cruelty investigation

HOWARD TOWNSHIP — More than 220 animals were found during an investigation of an animal hoarding case last week, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Animal Control Officers with the Cass County Animal Control conducted a search warrant in the 2500 block of Lilac Avenue. in Howard Township.

A search of the property resulted in the seizure of more than 220 animals, including dogs, ducks, chickens, rabbits, guinea pigs, doves, frogs, gerbils, fish, a crawfish and a snapping turtle. All animals were taken to a safe location and provided any necessary medical treatment and care.

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending charges. The investigation is still ongoing. Those with any information about this case or any other case of animal neglect or cruelty are asked to call the Cass County Animal Control at (269) 445-3701.

Assisting agencies with the investigation were Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Berrien County Animal Control, and Cass County Facilities Department.
