CASSOPOLIS — Voters in the Cassopolis Public Schools district voted to approve a $42 million bond issue proposal on Tuesday.

Cass County residents voted on the millage. According to ballot results from Casscountymi.org, there were 538 voters who supported the millage and 354 who voted no. The millage passed by 184 votes for a 60 percent approval rating.

The bond proposal includes multiple projects addressing facilities throughout the district. One of the major projects would be the relocation of the middle school to the high school campus and structuring necessary to keep the high school and middle school operations separate.

Other projects include repurposing the office in the high school, bathroom improvements, career technology and agricultural science renovations, chiller replacement, a new building management system, instructional technology, kitchen and servery remodeling, exterior signage, asbestos abatement, playground improvements at Sam Adams Elementary and extra-curricular improvements including a marching band tower, outdoor area improvements, field irrigation, an auxiliary gym, and field improvements for soccer, baseball, and softball.

The bond issue will have a zero mill increase over the 2024 levy of 2.60 mills and will not raise taxes.

In a Wednesday morning Facebook post, CPS Director of Finance Jim English and Superintendent Dr. John Ritzler thanked the community for supporting the district.

“Dear Cassopolis Community, from all of us at Cassopolis Public Schools, thank you,” the post stated. “We deeply appreciate your support in approving the $42,195,000 bond issue on May 6th. This is more than just an investment in buildings—it’s a powerful statement of trust in our students, our educators, and the future of our community. Because of your belief in our schools, we will be able to make vital improvements without increasing the millage rate. That means safer, more modern learning environments for our kids, and the resources our teachers and staff need to continue doing their dedicated work.

“Thank you for standing with us, for believing in our mission, and for helping us build a brighter future—together.”
