EDWARDSBURG — It might not show up in the win-loss column, but Edwardsburg girls soccer coach Sean Jesse continues to see daily improvement from his Lady Eddies.
Unfortunately any positives were overshadowed by an experienced Vicksburg squad which left town with a 7-1 Wolverine Conference win in Edwardsburg Monday.
The loss drops the Lady Eddies to 2-10 overall, including a 1-5 mark in the conference.
“Vicksburg is a good team that moves the ball very well. They are physical, talented and athletic. I thought we matched up well with them, but we needed to play a perfect match to keep up with them. We definitely had some moments today when we were a little bit sloppy and uncoordinated,” said Edwardsburg head coach Sean Jesse. “I thought if we had handled the diagonal balls that we had a little better that would’ve put some pressure on them. Vicksburg plays with three defenders in the back and we have the ability to split that, but unfortinately we weren’t able to do that today. That has alot to do with their defense, but I think we had a bit of an off day tonight as well.”
Vicksburg built themselves a 5-0 advantage after the first 40 minutes.
Scoring goals for the Bulldogs in the opening half were Hannah Fletter (33:20), Emelyn Germay (32:01), Evelyn Lincoln (29:38), Lila Smith (23:07) and Noelle Germay (11:08).
Vicksburg added two goals during the second half. Hannah DeVries tallied one for the Bulldogs at 16:47 and Madison Rohrstaff found the net with 1:27 left in the match.
Edwardsburg’s lone goal came at the 4:42 mark of the final half by senior Alexandria Ferguson and it was unassisted.
Vicksburg earned a 27-2 advantage over Edwardsburg in shots on goal.
Edwardsburg’s sophomore and No. 1 goalie Mallory Schrock recorded 11 saves, while Allison Dyczko added a pair of saves for the Lady Eddies late in the first half.
“We are a team that will battle you. Vicksburg pulled us out of position alot in the first half. I can’t fault our girls’ effort though. They work their tail off every single match and practice,” Jesse said.
Vicksburg had five corner kicks to none for Edwardsburg.
