DENTON, Tx. — A former Cassopolis standout has found his new collegiate home in the Lone Star State.

Cassopolis native Tyrese Hunt-Thompson announced his commitment to Division 1 North Texas University on Twitter/X on Monday afternoon. The Mean Green compete in the American Athletic Conference and finished the 2024 season with a 6-7 record.

A three-time NCAA national champion and two-time first-team All-GLIAC, Hunt-Thompson compiled 102 catches for 2,019 yards and 23 touchdowns in 34 games as a Bulldog. Hunt-Thompson said North Texas was the right choice because of the opportunity for playing time and his fit in their offensive system.

“They’re giving me an opportunity to come in and play and obtain a starting job,” he said. “Obviously anywhere I go, I’ll have to go prove myself and show them I can be that and that’s with anywhere I chose to go. I truly believe I’m a great fit for their system and they throw a ball a ton. My goal for next year is simple: be the person I know I can be on a higher level, produce and be dominant in everything I do.”

Friends and family will have a chance to see Hunt-Thompson suit up close to home when Western Michigan hosts North Texas Saturday, Sept. 6.
