Police investigate fatal Penn Township crash

PENN TOWNSHIP — A 71-year-old Cassopolis man died after his vehicle crashed into a tree Saturday morning, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, CCSO deputies responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash, in the area of Mud Lake Street and Penn Road. A vehicle driven by David Dussel, 71, of Cassopolis, was eastbound on Mud Lake Street when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, overturning the vehicle. Deputies and fire personnel attempted life saving measures, but Dussel was pronounced deceased on scene.
Dussel was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash. Assisting agencies were SMCAS Ambulance and Penn Fire Department.
The crash remains under investigation.
