NILES — A former Niles basketball standout has found his new collegiate home.
Mikel Forrest has committed to play basketball for Division II Barry University in Miami, Florida. A 2020 graduate of Niles High School, Forrest played for Southwestern Michigan College from 2022-24 and averaged 8.8 points per game in 52 games with the Roadrunners.
He totaled a career-high 28 points in a win over Olive-Harvey College and helped the Roadrunners qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament in 2023, the first year of the program’s reboot after a 26-year athletics hiatus. His efforts earned MCCAA All-Western Conference Honorable Mention status in 2023.
