Donald Eugene Johnson, 69, of Edwardsburg, died peacefully Friday, April 4, 2025 in the comfort of his family’s presence.
His life began January 23, 1956 in Vandalia, Missouri, the first son after four daughters and followed by one brother, born to Herbert and Marjorie Johnson. He married Teresa October 5, 1974 in Elkhart.
Don was known to many as Papa. He graduated from Jimtown High School in Elkhart in 1974. Don retired from Carpenters Local Union #413 in 2011. He was passionate about archery, commonly hunting and fishing with his bow. Don was involved in many sports and was quite competitive. Don’s family loved to hear him sing and he enjoyed various genres of music. Later on in life, Don and Teresa spent time together riding motor cycles with their friends. The only time Don could be still was when he was laying on the beach in Florida. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all their extra- curricular activities. Don was always there to lend a hand to his family and friends.
Don will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Teresa Johnson of Edwardsburg; two daughters, Tara (Gordon Jr.) Bruens, Bobbi (Keith) Bruens; nine grandchildren, Brittany, Travis, Shelby, Trevor, Austin, Wyatt, Axl, Sophia, Beau; six great grandchildren, Ella, Chance, Braylon, Remington, Margot, Callen; three sisters, Joyce Miller, Marsha Hunt, Sandy (Myron) Miller all of Elkhart; one brother, Allen (Ann) Johnson of Naples, Florida and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Deb Davis.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Don’s Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00p.m. in the Wellfield Botanical Gardens located at 1011 North Main Street in Elkhart, Indiana 46514
